The Web & Social Networks

Your project will probably need a website, and/or blog. A nice place where people can visit, form a community, catch up on news, discuss things, share knowledge, spend some time finding out about your project, and also about how things are progressing.

There are lots and lots of options for putting a website online. But, I’m going to ignore all of them, and I’m going to tell you this.

You should just use WordPress!

WordPress is free software you can use to create your website and/or blog. Here is WordPress described in their own words;

WordPress is web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog. We like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

The core software is built by hundreds of community volunteers, and when you’re ready for more there are thousands of plugins and themes available to transform your site into almost anything you can imagine. Over 60 million people have chosen WordPress to power the place on the web they call “home” — we’d love you to join the family.

It really is very good, so use it, and you’ll be joining some very notable company.

Here’s a showcase of websites and blogs that use WordPress.

But most importantly it’s easy to learn, and it’s very well known. So lots of people know how to use it!

And there are many people and organisations around the world, who know not only how to fix it when things go wrong, but also how to make it do all of the fantastically clever stuff that you may feel that you need in the future.

There are a few different ways to get a WordPress website onto the Internet. So which way should you choose?

Here’s a question for you.

Do you know anything at all about websites and how they work?

If you answered NO, then you need to read WordPress for Beginners, and you will be given an introduction to WordPress.com, and what it can do for you.

If you answered YES, then you still need to read WordPress for Beginners. It is worth knowing about WordPress.com, it can help people save time and money. And at the end of WordPress for Beginners there is a link to WordPress for Intermediates.
